Why do we buy online? What do we shop more and what does it motivate us? I decided to take a mini interview from a really active online shopper in order to see and write her own motivations. Exclusively here, on Business Monkey!

Let’s meet Eva. She is 24 years old. She works as a Marketing Assistant on a 4-star hotel in the center of Athens. I met her through our Zumba lesson at the gym and I found the courage to ask her a couple of questions.

-What is the last thing that you bought from an e-shop?

-Well, the last thing I ordered was a bikini set from www.rosegal.com. The order was made 2 months ago and the item arrived last week.

-What do you usually buy online?

-To start with, I book all my tickets online, either if they are tickets for airplane or tickets for movies and theaters. In addition to this, I order my clothes from e-shops, as my time for shopping is restricted. I find these categories cheaper than offline. Generally, it isn’t about what you are looking for but which company’s advertisement will grab your attention.

-From which sites do you buy more often?

-As far as the airplane tickets are concerned, I take a look at www.skyscanner.com as I find the best offers. For my clothes, shoes or some accessories like bags and jewelries, I prefer reliable sites like Ebay, Asos, Aliexpress and MangoOutlet. On these sites, I am not afraid to use my credit card. I also know their return policy, in case of mistake.

-Finally, what influences you to make online purchases?

-It is really easy and convenient to order while you are on your PC. I am very busy during the day and my job requirements for formalwear are high. The discounts I receive are a big motive for these purchases. Finally, the rational delivery time matters a lot.

Shanthi and Kannaiah (2015) examined on their paper the type of products that consumers prefer to buy online as well as the influencing factors which lead them to realize them. After a survey they conducted, they found out that the top categories of products purchased online are tickets, books and clothes, something that relates with the above Eva's interview. Their results included also the most influencing factors that make consumers purchase online: the price of the products and the security of them. Eva emphasizes the factor of reliability of the website and the one of the discounts. The similarity of survey’s results and interview is obvious.
